About

Joanne served as Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology at Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia for 31 years, teaching medical and graduate students and also maintaining an NIH-funded research program in reproductive biology. Her studies focused on the identity, origin and function of testicular stem cells that give rise to all sperm in males. Her work was supported by the Eunice Shriver Institute of Child Health and Human Development at the NIH, where she also served as a yearly reviewer of submitted grant proposals for the Reproductive Biology Study Section. From 2005 through 2010, Joanne also served as Senior Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs at Temple Medical School, foregoing teaching but continuing to pursue her research program. Though now retired, she still retains her interest in research and, among other activities, serves on the Research Committee of the Health Trust Fund.

Joanne has been a Scottish terrier owner, breeder and total fan for many years. She and her husband Cliff Schultz got their first scottie in 1974 and began breeding and showing a few years later under the kennel name Glengala. Joanne has been an STCA member since 1991 and a Trustee of the Health Trust Fund of the STCA for a number of years. Now retired from breeding, Joanne and Cliff are still owned by Scotties and today have two lively boys who keep them on their toes. Since her retirement, Joanne has also pursued a “second career” as a fine artist and exhibits her work in many art shows in PA, NJ and Delaware, including the Yellow Springs Art Show in Chester Count, PA.
