About
Helen has been a Trustee of the Health Trust Fund for more than 20 years; and Secretary for most of that time as well. She had been a member of the Scottish Terrier Club of America for 50 years, and a Scottie breeder and exhibitor for more than 50 years, having finished more than 30 conformation champions, many from the Bred-by-exhibitor class or as her own handler in other classes. In her quest for breeding excellent dogs, Helen has always been passionate about Scottie health. She was the advocate for getting our breed on the CHIC registry and is currently our CHIC Liaison for STCA, worked with Dr. Jean Dodds for the early tests for vWD – organizing and hosting blood draw clinics, and has consistently worked for the HTF getting people to sign up for health testing and DNA Blood Draws at Montgomery and Rotating.
She also serves the STCA as the Delegate to the American Kennel Club where she was elected to the AKC Parent Club Standing Committee and chairs their Breeders Development Committee.
In her other life, Helen was an English and science teacher for 30+ years. (Ask her how she taught genetics using dog pedigrees!)
