About

Beth became a Scottish Terrier owner on August 25, 1984. Piper Laurie, her first Scottie, was a birthday gift to herself on her 18th birthday. She picked her up and off to college they went. She was the best secret keeper and confidant a college freshman could have. That was the beginning of her love for Scottish Terriers. She is still amazed and entertained by the breed daily and has had several wonderful Scotties over the years.

Beth’s love for dogs and terriers in general is inherited. Her grandfather and grandmother raised and showed Kerry Blues, Welsh Terriers and Yorkshire Terriers. Her father raised and showed Yorkshire Terriers, Cairn Terriers, and American Staffordshire Terriers. While growing up, she spent many evenings at the local YMCA as a student in either a conformation or obedience class with her dad as the instructor.

Along with her love for dogs, Beth has always had a keen interest in science, specifically genetics, and has spent 30+ years in research lab environments with a focus on discovering mechanistic causes of human disease. Much of her work has focused on gaining a better understanding of cardiac development and congenital heart disease.

Being a member of the HTF marries together two of her favorite things: Scottish Terriers and answering scientific questions with solid research.
